HAPPY 2017!

It all started with a dream, a dream to make traffic jams a better place. MyBump had a superb rollercoaster of  a 2016 – here are MyBump Top 10 Highlights:

 

1) Just an Idea on a Piece of Paper

MyBump began as an idea during Project Brainchild, a pre-accelerator program organised by CodeAr.my and Khazanah Nasional. We wanted to be more than just an idea that makes money, we wanted to be the solution that gives money back to the society. After months of study and research, we came up with MyBump – a crowd advertising platform that matches drivers with brands with the aim to increase a driver’s monthly take home wage by 5-10%. At the start of 2016, we dropped our corporate hats and jumped head first into #startuplife.

2) MaGIC-Stanford Go2Market

MyBump participated in MaGIC-Stanford Go2Market, an awesome program initiated by the Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC) and Stanford University. We gained first-hand insights from professors of Silicon Valley on design thinking, business growth and strategy as well as the opportunity to meet remarkable entrepreneurs from all over South East Asia. The next MaGIC-Stanford Go2Market 2017 is now open for registration – grab your chance!

3) Lean Startup Kuala Lumpur

We had the super lucky opportunity to partner up with Lean Startup Machine (LSM) for an intense 3-day workshop teaching entrepreneurs the process of validating business ideas through hands-on experimentation and mentorship. Being participants of previous LSM, the lean startup concept is undeniably crucial to ensure a business idea is worth your effort and we are a mega lean startup supporter. Don’t forget to checkout Lean Startup Kuala Lumpur 2017 for an awe-entrepreneurial learning experience!

 

4) #bumpyourbrand Campaign

We were noobs, and like all noobs – to be an expert, you got to know what you are doing inside and out. So we decided to come up with our first case study campaign called #bumpyourbrand for three reasons, the first is to understand our operational process from start to finish, the second is to do everything manually before we start coding (save money la..) and the third – we couldn’t afford to sponsor brands and we figured a MyBump campaign would give us less of a risk (in case poop hits the fan). The campaign outcome was awesome – albeit major firefighting and long nights along the way…but we knew we were heading towards the right direction. Thank you to MyBump brand ambassadors for helping us!

 

5) Echelon Asia Summit, Singapore

We won tickets to Echelon Asia Summit in Singapore !  An event that attracts over 5,000 top-tier digital professionals, entrepreneurs and investors across Asia, and we had an wonderful time bumping fellow Malaysian startups – also #TeamMyBump first road trip!

 

6) Lovin’ the Media Spotlight

Thank our lucky stars – we received marvelous support from various media, a power-up motivation that kept us going throughout the year. Having the chance to do what you love is a blessing, but having the extra support and pat-on-the-back keeps you sane, especially since we were venturing into the unknown! To all media friends, thank you from the bottom of our hearts, for giving us that extra boost and hope – a little bump goes a long way.

 

7) Bumping from North to South

Our story needed to be told and we jumped on every opportunity to showcase MyBump – from Penang to Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru, sharing what we do with drivers to get their support and participation. Thank you to CodeAr.my, MDEC e-Rezeki and #youcanduit team, Iskarnival (Kreatif) team, the Khazanah Nasional team, old and new friends (too long of a list here, and if you are reading this – it’s definitely you too) and of course our ever understanding family members  for your support and giving us the voice to share our story.

 

8) Top 45 Startups by Slush Singapore

MyBump was awarded the Top 45 Startup by Slush Singapore! Our very first international recognition (and the only startup amongst the 45 that was pre-revenue)! We didn’t make it to the top but we were deeply honored to be amongst the 45 best South East Asia tech-startups. A promising start and a humbling recognition towards our aspiration.

 

9) Top 20 Finalist of Alliance Bank BizSmart Academy SME Innovation Challenge

MyBump ranked the Top 20 Finalist of the SME Innovation Challenge. We had a super two-months experience with Alliance Bank BizSmart Academy organised by Alliance Bank, EcoWorld, Manulife, Visa, HyppTV, BFM, Leaderonomics and MaGIC. We received structured teaching and business coaching and were given media exposure by Vulcan Post, Leaderonomics and BFM 89.9 (The Business Station), not to mention the great networking and friendship built with awe-inspiring fellow entrepreneurs.

 

10) From a Team of 1 to an Army of 5

It would have a been a short bump without the relentless and long days of hard work, faith, enthusiasm and determination of #TeamMyBump. MyBump started with a team of 1, Nadia Jalil, at the start of the year, joined by Dhanish Athif as our co-founder and COO in April, Karam Ali as our Software Engineer in May, Ahmed Rishwan as our CTO in July and Andrew Tai as our Head of Marketing in December.

Our journey was also guided by incredible mentors and friends from numerous backgrounds and industries. Selflessly giving their time, tips, advice and sharing life experiences – keeping us grounded and steering MyBump to a better direction. True angels we met along the way.

Special thanks to Naail Abdul Rahman our (contract) Android Developer and past team members Atiqah Zakri, Hamidi Baharudin, Fathi Hazwan and Azlan Shah back in 2015. Though it was short sprint, MyBump would have never be as it is now without your early support.

Last year was a super huge learning curve for us and we are blessed to have met such great and inspiring people along the way – we also had our share of fun!

2017 marks the dawn of another exciting and amazing journey for #TeamMyBump. We will continue to be better and improve – to make MyBump awesome for you.
